Kauai - known for their healthier food & drink choices are always a go to - even for a little "lift me up" There is a variety that will suit most peoples palet.
Service - greeting but not offering a menu first, asking "what do you want?" I didn"t see menus on the counter, only the one up on the wall. So there we are, a few customers, shuffeling pass one another up & down the counter trying to read the menu on the wall - exhausting. I then said to the staff behind the counter "I have heard you sell a detox type of drink" & the response "everything we sell is healthy" That response & service made me turn around & walk out - they lost out on a sale - but may be they don't care enough.
Sometimes a dimmer atmosphere is calming but this "dark" feels like not enough globes rather than calming.

I just tried the new laksa at Kauai in Brooklyn Mall, and let's just say it was an incredibly average experience. The anticipation was real, especially for someone who cherishes a good, traditional laksa. However, what I got was more like a distant cousin of laksa, who clearly didn’t inherit the family’s famous prawn flavor.
First things first, the laksa lacked that rich, comforting taste that’s supposed to come from a well-cooked prawn broth. Instead, it felt like the prawns had gone on vacation and left behind a watery broth. The noodles were there, the veggies were present, but the soul of the laksa was noticeably absent.
And let’s talk about the spiciness—or the lack thereof. Traditional laksa is supposed to have a kick that leaves you reaching for your water glass, but this one seemed to have misplaced its spice rack. It’s as if the chef was too shy to introduce the spices to the pot.
Now, don't get me wrong, the laksa wasn’t bad, per se. It just wasn’t... laksa. Imagine expecting a thrilling rollercoaster ride and getting the kiddie coaster instead. It’s cute, but not what you came for.
On the brighter side, Kauai’s peanut butter bomb smoothie was an absolute delight as always. If the laksa was the kiddie coaster, this smoothie was the sweet, fun treat at the end of the ride that almost made you forget about the disappointment. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, it truly saved the day.
So, while the laksa didn’t quite hit the mark, at least Kauai’s smoothie game is strong.
Here’s hoping they revisit their laksa recipe and give those prawns a proper invite back to the party. Until then, I’ll stick to the smoothies!
Kind Regards
Dietmar
